Season Over

May 4th, 2008 by Doug

What a performance by Nabby and you can’t fault the Sharks heart in the last three games, it’s just too bad it was too late and a real shame the game was decided on a powerplay. You knew it was coming, and when it did, the Sharks likely wouldn’t be able to stop the Stars PP they’ve struggled to contain with fresh legs.

More from me later in the week, but for now we all have to wonder if we saw Ron Wilson’s last game behind the bench and the final glimpse of this current roster. I’m going to take a few days to try and put it all in perspective.

If I remember, Milan Michalek got lit up at the end of the 3rd period. Did he return? I fell asleep about halfway through the 2nd OT (1:00 in the morning here in the east

No. Michalek didn’t return and there is no word as to what his injuries are. I think that really hurt the Sharks, not just because they lost one of their best players, but because they had one less fresh pair of legs on their bench.

I wonder if Wilson will be fired?

I hope so. As everyone was tired and losing a step, he still didn’t play Brown. Why? Plihal on the first line? Way to adjust.

So Pavelski, Clowe, Campbell as well as Ehrhoff and Roenick and a bunch of role players would need to be signed just to tread
water. That doesn’t leave much room to get better.

Kevin - I think you hit the hot buttom issues here. The hottest topic will likely be the future of Ron Wilson and his coaching staff. I’m going to wait a few days before I form an opinion - despite the ups and downs and another disappointing 2nd round exit, we are talking bout the best coach in Sharks history who just led the team to a Pacific Division title.

As for the roster - several questions exist based on UFA and RFA status and what the Sharks need to do to take the next step. There certainly will be a lot to discuss here in the offseason.

I’d try to trade Marleau, Pavs impressed me enough in the post season that I would consider giving him the #2 centre role. Thornton should have been playing with Clowe, Cheechoo and Michalek were getting beaten on the wall, Sharks need even more grit.

Pavelski and Marleau play well together.

  10. By Troy on May 7, 2008

Pavelski is already the #2 centre. Marleau plays the wing with Pavelski

Ehrhoff needs to go! Too many turnovers and poor play. For me Ehrohoff was one of the weak links during the playoffs. So why did our genius coach Ron Wilson continue to give him the minutes on the ice is beyond me.
